Why can’t I remove my default card?
Why your default payment method may be locked when you have an active subscription, and how to replace it safely.
Quick overview
If you have an active subscription, you may not be able to remove your default card straight away. This is there to stop your membership being left without a payment method for future renewals.
You can still replace the card. Add a new payment method first, set the new card as default, then remove the old card.
Why the default card is protected
Your default card is the main payment method attached to your subscription. It is used for monthly renewal payments and helps keep your membership active.
If the default card was removed before another card was added, your next renewal could fail and your subscription credits might not be added as expected.
How to replace your default card
Step 1: Sign in to your account.
Step 2: Open Account.
Step 3: Go to Settings.
Step 4: Find Manage your payment methods.
Step 5: Click Add payment method.
Step 6: Add the new card through secure card setup.
Step 7: Return to Payment methods.
Step 8: Find the new card.
Step 9: Click Set default.
Step 10: Check the default label has moved to the new card.
Step 11: Find the old card.
Step 12: Click Remove.
Step 13: Confirm the old card has been removed.
If you only have one saved card
If your only saved card is the default card for an active subscription, you need to add another card before you can remove it.
Once the new card is saved and set as default, the old card should unlock.
If you do not have an active subscription
If you do not have an active subscription, you should normally be able to remove saved cards from Account, Settings, Payment methods.
If the card is still locked even though your subscription has been cancelled, refresh your account and check again. If it still looks wrong, contact support.
If your card has expired or been replaced
Add the replacement card first and set it as default. After that, remove the expired or old card.
If the expired card is still being used for a live subscription, removing it before adding a replacement could cause renewal issues.
If adding a new card does not work
Secure card setup may fail if your billing address is missing, your session has expired, your bank blocks the card setup, or there is a temporary payment connection issue.
Refresh the page, check your billing details, and try again. If setup still will not start, contact support.
